For a toy to be sold, it must:
- Be CE marked by the manufacturer.
- Be marked with an address to the manufacturer.
- Be marked with the address of the importer.
- Have a traceability label, which can be linked to the DoC.
- Have an EC Declaration of Conformity, often called a DoC.
- Have the correct warnings and instructions in Swedish and English.
Toys must be CE marked
It is important to note that CE marking is only required for toys. All other children's products, such as children's room furniture, children's rugs and other interior details, are not tested and not CE marked. This certainly does not mean that these products are dangerous, just that their manufacturers have not chosen to undergo the expensive and demanding tests where it is not necessary.

The European standard EN 71 specifies safety requirements for toys. Compliance with the standard is required by law for all toys sold in the EU.
Warning labels Toys
Some toys must have warning labels and the labels must be in Swedish and English and they must be visible, easily legible, easy to understand and correct. The warnings must always be preceded by the word "Warning" and describe the danger of the toy.
Warnings must always be attached to the toy, on a label or on the packaging. For small toys sold without packaging, the required warnings must be affixed to the toy itself.
A toy must not have a warning that contradicts the toy's intended use. For example, toys that have a play value for children under three years of age, such as stuffed animals, must not be labeled "Warning. Not suitable for children under three years of age." This type of toy must always meet all requirements for toys for children under three years of age.
- Toys not intended for use by children under 36 months:
"Not suitable for children under 36 months" or "Not suitable for children under three years" or a warning in the form of the following symbol:
- Activity toys
“For home use only”
- Functional toys
"To be used under adult supervision"
- Chemical toys
"Not suitable for children under [*] years. To be used under adult supervision."
[*] The age shall be determined by the manufacturer.
- Skates, roller skates, inline skates, skateboards, scooters and toy bicycles for children;
"Use protective equipment. Should not be used in traffic"
- Aquatic toys;
"May only be used in water where the child bottoms and under the supervision of an
adult."
- Toys in food ;
"Toy in packaging. Adult supervision recommended."
- Imitations of protective masks and helmets;
"This toy does not provide any protection."
- Toys intended to be strung across a cradle, cot or perambulator by means of strings, cords, elastics or straps ;
"To prevent possible injury from child entanglement, remove this toy as soon as the child tries to get up on hands and knees in a crawling position."
- Packaging for fragrances in olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games;
"Contains fragrances that can cause allergies."
